The Remarkable Orb Weaver (Spidersona)

Front and back spider graphics were directly inspired by the Australian garden orb weaver spider, which are remarkable web making spiders local to my area. I spent roughly a week on this concept but very progressively came up with the design since seeing Across the Spider verse. the slowest part was the initial 2d sketches and picking a design to pursue. Having the design brought back to native spiders in my area was a good start for concept generation.

Character concept:
You're ordinary Spiderman origin story except based in urban/city Australia. The Remarkable Orb Weaver has a great focus on (organic) web making and generally more active at night. Heightened senses especially in detecting motion and vibrations.
Design Features:
The suit features two large main lenses with two pairs of refracting mirror-like lenses, this feature was inspired by the species having six eyes and act a little like periscopes but are less sensitive to light than the main lenses.
The two small triangles between the eyes were funnily enough inspired by Cicadas 'simple eyes'. I thought they could be used as some form of assistance for seeing in the dark.
The web shooters were intended to be organic given the species 'remarkable' ability to produce large amounts of silk and web.

The colours were tough to choose but I stayed with the red and blue for the complimentary scheme and more traditional palette. The red remains fitting for Australian garden orb weavers that almost glow red once shedding. The patterns and markings are also inspired from the species.
